Many people do not realize that a lack of proper vitamins can lead to more than just a common cold. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to a numerous amount of health problems. According to a recent study completed by NFL players, we can add muscle injury to the list of health problems because of insufficient vitamins.
A study was done on 89 NFL players during their pre-season training. Each NFL player had their Vitamin D levels measured prior to the start of the season. In every case, the lower the vitamin D levels, the greater the chance of injury and their severity. The study found that 80% of the players showed to be insufficient in Vitamin D. At this level, they are unable to sustain optimal health.
Our bodies get natural Vitamin D through exposure from the sun. The fat-soluble vitamin can also be consumed through eggs, fish, fortified milk, dairy products and vitamins.
Vitamin D deficiency can lead to osteoporosis, thyroid problems, cardiovascular disease, fatigue, depression and more. Nutritional experts urge Americans to take some time everyday to spend outdoors. The risk of skin cancer from brief exposure is far less significant than the health benefits of raising your Vitamin D levels.
Ask your chiropractor about the possibility of taking a Vitamin D supplement to decrease your chance of muscle injury.
